Rules for Posting

General Posting Rules

  1. The trading, buying, or selling of illegal or age-controlled material and items is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, counterfeit items (including “proxy” cards), items that infringe on a company’s trade or service marks, drugs of any kind, alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and adult material.

  2. Spamming, flooding, scrolling, etc. are strictly prohibited. This includes posting topics or replies that have no other purpose but to advertise another site or product, posting the same topic repeatedly, and using an excessive number of non-word characters in a post or subject title. You should not use more than three (3) non-word (i.e. punctuation) characters in a row.

  3. Please use a respectable degree of maturity when posting here. Don’t swear (this includes ASCII swearing, where letters are replaced with punctuation characters) and don’t pick fights with other members. Please keep your posts appropriate and on topic.

Arguments and conflicts are perfectly acceptable, provided they do not become inflammatory or combative. Name-calling is generally combative and inappropriate. If you aren’t sure where the line is, err on the side of caution and be nice. If you wouldn’t make such a statement to your parents or boss, you probably are best not making it here.

  4. Do NOT post topics advertising cards or other items you don’t have for trade. This includes listing cards you may own, but are not willing to trade. Doing so causes the search engine to produce incorrect results, and thus will be considered an abuse of the site.

  5. Do not use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. Don’t put your subject in ALL CAPS, and don’t write in it either. It’s like yelling and it’s really annoying. It’s common netiquette not to write in ALL CAPS, so don’t do it. This includes posting message titles in mostly CAPS. Do not try to loophole the rules, your post will still be closed or deleted.

  6. Only post topics in their appropriate forums. If you post a topic in a forum where it does not belong it will be either moved, or more likely, deleted. If you do this repeatedly, you will be banned. Also, do not post the same topic in more than one forum.

  7. Do NOT post more than one “up” post per day. An “up” post is a reply that is made to a thread that has no other purpose than to move that thread to the top of the forum display list. It is acceptable to post updates, but repeatedly posting a reply just for the sake of moving your post up is no better than flooding the board.

  8. Do not post more than one new topic every two days in each of the trading forums. Additionally, you may only have ONE active thread in each of the trading forums. This rule does not apply to replies, only new topics.

Forum-Specific Posting Rules

Magic: The Gathering Have/Want Lists

  1. Never up someone else’s post by posting anything other than valid trade offers.

This means that posting homework assignments, concert plans, or anything else that isn’t a trade offer is against the forum posting rules. Please e-mail, PM, or IM those messages.

  2. Never solicit “up” posts by requiring other people to reply to you by posting on your post.

While asking people to post offers or counteroffers is perfectly alright, you shouldn’t require people to post a reply on your post everytime they want to contact you for just anything at all. Additionally, you may not try and coerce or induce people to post replies on your post for no reason other than to up your post.

Non-Magic Trading Forum

  1. Sales of non-Magic items are allowed in this forum; however, all items must be priced. Without prices, such sales quickly become cash auctions, which are not allowed in this forum. Cash auctions are allowed on The MOTL Auction Board, if a member should wish to post one. All alleged sales without listed prices will be closed.

  2. Buy lists are acceptable so long as the items the member wishes to purchase are priced. Again, the absence of prices results in a cash auction.

  3. Trade auctions are permissible, so long as an ample list of items with assessed point values to bid with exists. Stating that $1.00 = 1 point is permissible, so long as it is accompanied by the ample list of other items.

  4. Never up someone else’s post by postinganything other than valid trade offers. This means that posting homework assignments, concert plans, or anything else that isn’t a trade offer is against the forum posting rules. Please e-mail, PM, or IM those messages.

  5. Posting links to eBay/Yahoo Auctions/MOTL Auction Board items is acceptable, as long as they are not the sole content/intent of the post.

Trade Auctions & Sales

  1. Cash auctions are not allowed in the Trade Auctions & Sales forum.

Cash auctions belong on the MOTL Auction Board only.

  2. Never up someone else’s post by posting anything other than valid trade offers.

This means that posting homework assignments, concert plans, or anything else that isn’t a trade offer is against the forum posting rules. Please e-mail, PM, or IM those messages.

  3. Never solicit ups by requiring other people to reply to you by posting on your post.

While asking people to post offers or counteroffers is perfectly alright, you shouldn’t require people to post a reply on your post everytime they want to contact you for just anything at all. Additionally, you may not try and coerce or induce people to post replies on your post for no reason other than to up your post.

  4. You MUST POST PRICES for any cards that you want to sell or buy. You don’t have to list a price for each card if you are selling a collection but you do have to list a price for each item you want to sell or buy individually.

  5. Posting links to eBay/Yahoo Auctions/MOTL Auction Board items is acceptable, as long as they are not the sole content/intent of the post.

General Discussion

  1. Please limit yourself to no more than 3 posts per day in each of the UBB “Game” or similar threads. This includes posts such as “Stuff to Tell People,” “Song in Your Head,” etc.

  2. When threads reach 300 or more replies in length, a moderator will close the thread and a new continuation thread may be started. Please do not post a continuation thread before the old thread has been closed, even if it has reached 300 replies.

Those who fail to abide by these rules will have their posts edited or removed and will be issued warnings. Severe offenses will result in the revoking of posting privileges.

Thank you for adhering to these rules.

These rules are subject to change at any time, and without warning. MOTL reserves the right to take disciplinary action against users for abuses that may be outside the scope of these rules. Any off-site issues, such as conversation via IM clients or e-mail, are not handled by MOTL.
