Well i've known about this combo for 3 days now, i've already picked it up, so I guess i can leak it out a bit. MOTL - Grindstone 1.66 Apathyhouse.com - Grindstone 1.60 Ebay Grindstone 22hrs left - 27.00*****Grindstone Set Tempest Cost 1 Color Artifact Card Type Artifact Rarity R Card Text 3, T: Put the top two cards of target player’s library into that player’s graveyard. If both cards share at least one color, repeat this process. Flavor Text “Memory is a burden that wears at the soul as weather wears at stone.”—Crovax Artist Greg Simanson Painter's Servant Set Shadowmoor Cost 2 Color Artifact Card Type Artifact Creature — Scarecrow P / T 1 / 3 Rarity R Card Text As Painter's Servant comes into play, choose a color. All cards that aren't in play, spells, and permanents are the chosen color in addition to their other colors. Here is the deck played using this combo that I came a across for the 1st time Magic-league.com http://www.magic-league.com/tournament/info.php?id=41959&view=decks&page=2 Played by: KerZia | Record: 1-1-0 Main Deck Sideboard 4 Enlightened Tutor 4 Ponder 4 Dark Ritual 4 Lotus Petal 4 Lion's Eye Diamond 4 Force of Will 4 Brainstorm 4 Grindstone 4 Dark Confidant 4 Painter's Servant 1 Badlands 4 Swamp 3 Island 4 City of Brass 4 Underground Sea 4 Polluted Delta 4 Disenchant 3 Meddling Mage 4 Duress 4 Back to Basics There are many decklist that can utilize this combo more efficently, I do not agree with the decklist above I think that the combo should either: A) Be converted to the Phrexian Dreadnought / Stifle combo B) Replace Goblin Charbelcher
The reason for this post if for someone to break this deck. Please post deck list on how you think the combo has a better chance of success. When looking at this deck, you have to compare it to belcher, since they work so similarly and have the same goal. Lets compare the two CombosGrindstone 6 mana to play and activate more stable mana base 2 card win combo Will win if you get the two parts out Opponent has a turn (Upkeep) to still win afterwards. Burn can do it if you went off 3-4th turn. Creature can get nuked in responce to grindstone activation. Belcher 7 mana to play and activate Unstable land base, but has enough artifact mana to negate. 1 card win combo Can fizzile while comboing out. If works, wins that turn. I'm still holding judgment, but I think in belcher vs current incarnation of this deck, belcher is the better one. But I don't know if when the deck gets tinkered with if that will change. Too bad Painter's Servant cost 2, if it cost 1 Trinket mage would be savagely good in this deck. I really dont like Enlightened tutor in this deck, it messes with your mana base (I'm assuming the badland is suppose to be scrubland), and it slows you down. Maybe indernal tutor or Spoils of the Vault to take a page out of belchers deck?

I think fabricate works better than enlightened tutor though it costs more. city of traitors and ancient tomb help the combo go off quicker. if opponent has but one of serra avatar, darksteel colossus, legacy weapon type card in their deck wouldn't this trigger an unlimited loop and therefor cause a draw? Correct me if I'm wrong here.

No it wouldn't you would need 2 of those cards . Grindstone only repeats when it mills 2 of the same color . Grindstone will end when there is no cards left then the collosus goes back . It just gives them an extra turn . Now blessing on the other hand bones ya .

Agreed on the city of traitors and ancient tomb. Also, Leyline of the Void will take card of the recursion problem.I like the Belcher approach better. Use some tutors to dig up the grindstone, but use only 3 Painter's Servants, and stick 4 Living Wishes in to pull the 4th out of your board. I think I'd start with something like this: Creatures - 7: 3x Painter's Servant 4x Street Wraith Spells - 39: 4x Grindstone 4x Dark Ritual 4x Lion's Eye Diamond 4x Lotus Petal 4x Chrome Mox 4x Brainstorm 4x Living Wish 3x Plunge into Darkness 4x Land Grant 2x Cunning Wish 2x Fabricate Land - 14: 2x Tropical Island 1x Bayou 1x Underground Sea 3x Polluted Delta 3x Ancient Tomb 3x City of Traitors Sideboard - 15: 1x Painter's Servant 1x Pact of Negation 4x Leyline of the Void 1x Intuition 1x Meddling Mage 4x Duress 1x Naturalize 1x Chain of Vapor 1x Plunge Into Darkness Probably not ideal, but I think you get the idea. Do everything you can to find the missing combo pieces, but probably can go off in the first couple of turns with the right draws. Duress and LoV are your only real boarding cards, the rest is toolbox stuff for the wishes. -Scott

Obviously the strength of this combo is not its quickness but the option to play it in a control deck. Don't forget the red blasts ;-)

Please drop the quotes and caps lock. Just say "... workshop engine in vintage?" What you do with the caps + quotes doesn't make any grammatical sense. In other news, grindstones are $15.

Here, I'll "ANSWER YOUR QUESTION@"No, this deck would suck in vintage. Yes, you could build it with workshop, but it would be bad.
