As some of you may or may no remember me from my last post about a MOTL price checker.http://www.magictraders.com/ubb/Forum12/HTML/016577.html Since then that program has helped me save time when looking up prices. Last week i noticed that i had up about 15 calculators and about twice as many notepads and decided I should build something that can do it all. Get the prices for my cards, get the prices for your cards. So i created a "Trader" program. It has a few features that Apathy House doesn't have and hey, it's open source and you can talk to me to have me fix bugs!. So what are the features and what will it do. To start off once you run the program you will notice 4 boxes and a button that says "Check Trade". To the left is the place where you put in your cards. To the right is where you place in their cards. Here is an exmaple of the data that is in the left box. Ajani Damnation* Elspeth As you may notice that there are a few Ajani's out there and why is there a * at the end of Damnation and Elspeth isn't filled out. Here are some features of the program into one example. 1 - Multiple Version detection. Because Ajani can be Ajani Goldmane or Ajani Vengant or even what version of Ajani Goldmane are you refering twords. Once this has been detected you will get a small pop-up. The pop-up will state that it has found multiple versions of that card and you will have the ability to select whatever version you want. 2 - *'s at the end of cards. This indicates that this is a Foil card. Any card that has a * at the end of it will will be priced at the MOTL foil prices. This is a nice feautre to have as you don't have to load up a new list or anyhting along those lines. 3 - Elspeth is not the full name, I use Elspeth because it's one of the longer names that i can think of. You don't have to type in the full name of the card, you do howerever need to know how to spell the card somewhat. It will pick up on ELS or even E (You will have to select out of all of the E's but hey it knows). So that's a nice time saver on searching. So once you have placed your cards to the left and their cards to the right click on check trade. This will go through your list of cards first, get the prices and display the cards and the total below. Once it's finished with your cards it will go out and check their prices and do the same thing but to the right.
Once it has finished both price checks you will have the option to copy the trade. Once you click on Copy trade it will put it in this format to your clipboard. "MOTL TRADER BETA" "My:" "CARDS GO HERE" "PRICES GO HERE" "Total:" "TOTAL GOES HERE" "Your:" "CARDS GO HERE" "PRICES GO HERE" "Total:" "TOTAL GOES HERE" This is where you can easly post a trade to someone just by pasting it. And hey you just saved some time. So, as i know most of you will wonder why in the hell would i ever want to use this, and some of you might think hey this could be cool. It's up to you. This is a personal project to help me go through trades a bit faster, so if you use it, let me know how it does for you. I'm always available to perform updates and so on and i will continue to make updates to this until i think it's good to go..
So here you go, enjoy it and feel free to give me feed back. Latest: Beta 2.0a http://www.mediafire.com/?ymkyjtnlxty Archive: Beta 1.2A http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?oyzolznz3bt
Beta 1.1A http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ymz1yg3mgy3

You didn't give me a reason to trust you with the last thread. Give me three good reasons I should change my mind. Then give me 3 good reasons to use this, when Apathy is proven, does almost everything this does, and is more accessible to the magic-trading masses.

Once again, you don't have to use it. Thanks for the feedback.

But you have to prove to people that they should use it, otherwise you might as well just keep it to yourself and not post. Is the thread spam? Should it just get deleted by a mod, since it doesn't matter if no one uses it? Wasn't that your point of posting the thread in the first place?

Seems like he's just trying to help. It's not like the dude is asking for money for this thing. I'll give it a whirl when I get home for sure. If it's easier than just using CTRL + F and a separate tab, then I'm all for it!

Man, Does it really itch you that someone has created something? Why did i post it? Becasue maybe someone else is out there thinking about the same thing, Yes Apathy house does have their own version and yes alot of people use it. But no they do not use MOTL prices, and NO they do not make it easly to select the version and NO they do not allow for you to talk to the person who made the application to make it better. So yeah once again, i post it to be posted to share something that i like to use and would like to know if anyone else would like to use it aswell. As i made clear before you dont' have to use it and you can call me what you like, i'm just someone who uses MOTL prices and i like to get the prices and trade done quickly.

The problem is you're a low-ref member who has hardly been around any time at all. Excuse me if I refuse to touch a .exe from an entity i don't trust. Maybe if we all downloaded executables on a whim from anyone who offered us one the world would be a better place! Especially ones linked from mass-download sites like Mediafire!I will wait for Jeff, Bolty or Ben to confirm both its malware-free status and its functionality before i touch this.

If you do that, you let the terrorists win. We don't want the terrorists to win.

Not sure about letting the Terrorist win but it is what it is. I understand letting people test it out and checking it for maleware. Hell if it was me on the first time i would have a few things opened like Wireshark and two anti virus's running. Also, if anyone is interested in the code I will make this open source. It was written in Visual Studio 2005 using VB.

Needs more JAVA or HTML. Not all of us want to taint our computers with windows.

A lot of people on this site use PayPal. If the .exe installs a keylogger, he won't need to ask you for your money before he takes it.

You'll be waiting forever if you're waiting for me. I wouldn't even consider downloading random stuff like this off of the internet. I like my computer clean and free of spyware and viruses and stuff, and am not willing to take the risk of downloading any content from unverifiable or untrusted sources ever. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Sounds like a neat project, I may download it on a laptop that is gonna die pretty soon. and I doubt it can cause too much harm. besides, the way I look at it, why would you post this twice... and risk your refs, etc. I think you're really are trying to help out. I'll try it and let you know what I thought. How so, do you mean the GUI should be more HTML/JAVA like? And are you refring twords more windows beacuse of the pop-up when it asks about a card?

I think he's referring to the fact that he can't run the file on his OS. HTML and Java can be used with any operating system.

MYY - Thanks let me know what you think. As for posting this twice, well this is two diffrent projects. The first one simply would get the price for 1 card and tell you what MOTL has for today's prices for it. As for this project it goes into a bit more detail, and yes i am hanging my ref's out on the line here, but at the same time I have nothing to worry about.

Good point, I could turn this into a VB.NET application pretty simple. I will put that into consideration. As from the looks of it people are not big fans of downloading anything, but i don't blame them.

I think you can host it as an applet and have people run it in the Java Virtual Machine. Probably doesn't solve your skepticism problem, but it'll allow people to run it in their browser (which is where people use MOTL), and it will eliminate operating system problems. If your software is safe, and works well, it might be put available on the site for everyone to use officially. If it's easier and or has more information than just using CTRL + F in the price guide, you might be able to hook us all up. Course that depends on whether or not you wanna give it away or not . In order to write an applet though ya gotta know do some HTML and code your stuff in Java.

it becoming the facto is doubtable, i mean we still don't have e-mail working on this site..*cough*. If anything it would be a .net applciation using ASP.Net and AJAX. But for right now in the BETA stage i will be leaving this as windows application, once it's harded up then it will be easier to move it over to a diffrent medium.

If its open source, post the code somewhere. I'll compile off that.

Or i can be a responsible adult and warn others about the risks of downloading executables from unknown sources, as nder (a mod, no less) pointed out after me. But thanks for playing.

I was thinking of doing a program like this as a simple and easy "first project" in learning OS X, Objective-C and Cocoa programming. But looking at the reception I'm happy that I chose an another project instead.__________________ Traction - free realtime audiovisual experiencesGive me back what I paid For another mother****er in a motorcade.
