Sadly I'm going to be bashed for this but currently for the 2010 internet security, Norton is the top performer (with Bitdefender coming in second). As for removal Webroot and Spyware doctor are found to remove almost all common infections. PC Mag review here of Internet Security Suites As for free, AVG has caused too much issues during testing so I'm more lenient towards Avast! and Microsoft Security Essentials. But even with the best security, if you download; well you're out of luck

So, I'm still trying to figure out why my headphones won't work. Think I found out why though... I went into sound and everything, and it says "rear jack" for the device... Wouldn't it be front since that's where the hole is to hook them up? The other option was finding out drivers, ectera but according to the computer, it's all correct. I don't know.. at a loss here, lol.

I am an Apple campus representative at my college, so I am pretty well versed in many areas of Apple tech. Feel free to ask me any questions you have about Mac, either in this thread or email/AIM if you want faster responses(PM for info if you want it). Re: Keyboard cleaing: Fastest: Turn it upside down and shake Fast: Use a vacuum nozzle or run a duster through the keys. Slow: Remove and clean each key individually.

I'm thinking of upgrading to windows 7 from vista. When I do that, will it wipe my computer clean? Will I need to re-install programs? Will I need to transfer files from an external drive back onto my laptop?

Might have to reinstall a few things (itunes if you have it), but if all of your files are vista, you should be fine. It will let you know everything that needs to be removed before it downloads.

If upgrading, I'd recommend a clean install rather than doing an actual "upgrade Vista to 7" process. Better to exorcise any old demons left in the old OS and start fresh. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Trade them to me, please! If I do that, will it be as Thanos described?

No, you'll want to back up all of your files, and I'd recommend downloading install files for all of the stuff you want on the new OS and putting them on a flash drive or external drive or CD or something so you can just blast through them rather than waiting for them to all download. It's not the easiest path to go down, but the extra time is worth it for a more stable install, IMO. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. but all the files will still be on there? Case in point: I do the wipe install, I'll have to re-install Knights of the old republic, but my saved games will still be there?

Does anyone know of a free windows program that I can use to burn files to a DVD such that it will have a menu when played in a standard DVD player? What file format should I generally use?

This works pretty well: http://www.winxdvd.com/dvd-author/ Not free. It costs 39 bucks. There is a free download, not sure what the limitations are. __________________ Everyone you meet is going through something * BoltBait is the official holder of the MOTL Logout Button [Trades] [Rules] [FAQ] [Prices] [Card Searches] [Tools] [WotC] [Dominoes] [Art] [#MOTL Chat] [Logout]

I know there's plenty of TV based threads but I didn't think this warranted another one.I bought a Sony Bravia KDL-46VL150 today. There weren't any left in the box so I got the floor model. It worked fine when I hooked it up but after a couple of hours it turned off and the standby light would continuously flash (red). I tried turning it on a few times after that but it would only stay on for about 10-15s at a time. A few minutes later I turned the power strip off and waited thirty seconds and now it's working fine again. Yes I got a discount, but is this the beginning of a perpetual headache? Also, I want to hook my PC up to it and the manual says I need an HD15 and a Mini-Pin Audio. Should I just buy the standard versions of these or does anyone have any good/bad/better experiences with any specific brands.

If you got a floor model, it should have absolutely positively come with a warranty. If not, you are in huge trouble. Warranty it at the first sign of trouble. Do not hesitate.

Yes, it has a warranty: 2yrs parts and labor with the option for 2yr extended. I called Sony customer service and they gave me the number for a licensed repair shop. The technician told me that since it powered up and worked fine after I toggled the power strip that it may've had to reset its' internal micro-chip, but if it happens again don't hesitate to call back. Five minutes after I got off the phone with him the same thing happened. Long story short, he's calling me back this afternoon to schedule a time to come out and replace a part. quote: Originally posted by farsk8dutch: Also, I want to hook my PC up to it (when it's fixed) and the manual says I need an HD15 and a Mini-Pin Audio. @farks8dutch - Good call on using the warranty. In response to your second question, buying brand-name cables over generic is a complete waste of money UNLESS a) you need studio/professional level quality, or b) your cable needs to reach a longer-than-normal length (50+ feet). If neither of those needs fit yours, don't worry about it. In terms of where-to-buy, check out Monoprice.com - they have some of the best prices around and their cables have never failed me.

I'm having a peculiar problem. When I play Call of Duty 4, my router loses internet connectivity after a few minutes. The wierd thing is that this only happens with Call of Duty 4, and only since I purchased a new wireless usb adapter. I used a different wireless adapter before with the same router and had no problems. I play other online games, such as diablo 2 occasionally and I watch a lot of Tv shows on hulu and never have problems. At first I thought it was a port forwarding issue, but I've messed with that and tried DMZ+ mode and think that's not it.

Were you using a USB adapter previously? If not, Is the transfer rate on USB wireless fast enough for CoD 4 online? Are you sure you are on a g/n band?

I used a different usb adapter before, It's brand new and should be fast enough, and yes. What's confusing me is that it somehow causes my router to lose broadband service. My computer stays connected to the router itself, has excellent signal strength, etc.

I think I killed my keyboard (laptop)I was reading the instructions on how to remove the parts from my computer. I'm getting the black screen with Hp PAvillion dv6000 and found some infos on google. Unfortunately, none succeeded, and my keyboard is broken (or its just plugged correctly...) Sony's Vaio? OR save up for a MAC? A decent mac is incredibly expensive. I might not be able to afford... Vaio is expensive too. I'm not touching to HP ever again Robert

What do you plan on using the laptop for?

Mainly :1-notes taking 2-video playing (movie) 3-Adobe Indesign (to make journal) 4-gaming would be a bonus (I'm waiting for starcraft 2. But likely, I'll need a desktop) 4 being the less important. I could buy a notebook for note, but they are small and almost useless for video.

Get a Macbook. The white (cheapest) one is fine, though the cheapest macbook pro has a better screen and a few other things. Mine is from '07 and runs windows, indesign, final cut, and whatever else i need perfectly. I can even game through windows on parallels, which as of 5.0 doesn't suck anymore. The only thing is that you might want to upgrade the RAM if you want to run windows apps.
