Couple of good sites to look at: www.newegg.com http://www.pricewatch.com I have a Chaintech Geforce FX 5500 or 5550, it has VGA, DVI, TV in/out, and S-Video out, it came with a converter that has composite out. Does the job for me. __________________ To the seeker of this blade, I bring death!Don't forget the Auction Board!

It is possible either a firewall is preventing you from entering the site or it has been blocked by accident. Try checking your firewall settings first. __________________ How many times do I have to have sex with your mom before you realize we have something special.2007-08 MOTL Fantasy Hockey Champ!

Ok guys, I need a hand here. I'm trying to get to a site and I keep getting this error: Database Error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query File: /home/content/D/e/n/DenominatorX/html/wvf/forum/Sources/Security.php Line: 279 I've tried using Firefox, IE and Chrome and each comes up with that error. However, I can get onto it at my parents house. I can get to the main site: http://earlstees.com/wvf/ But, when I click to the forums, I get that error. Noone can figure it out. Matt (robin's hubby) and I had a conversation that went as such: jazaray@gmail.com says: hey Matt, do I have a firewall? Matt says: yes, router = firewall jazaray@gmail.com says: might that be the reason I can't seem to get to a particular site? jazaray@gmail.com says: everytime I try and go to it, I get an error message Matt says: maybe, what is the site? jazaray@gmail.com says: it's just a forum for one of my alliances Matt says: send me the link jazaray@gmail.com says: http://wvf.earlstees.com/forum/ jazaray@gmail.com says: I can get on to it at my parents house jazaray@gmail.com says: just not here Matt says: nope, I bet you if you tried it at your parents house now, it wouldn't work jazaray@gmail.com says: why? Matt says: it has massive SQL errors, and this page is very tempremental based on it's source. They need to fix the page. If you do get it to work, don' expect it to work for very long before it craps out again. jazaray@gmail.com says: that's just weird, cause they've used this site for a while and I'm the only one that seems to have a problem with it. Matt says: it has some zoning errors, in the SQL code, so there is no surprise that it may work for someone else Matt says: I bet it is based on some time sync with other time zones jazaray@gmail.com says: so, I'm never gonna be able to get on it, huh? Matt says: they need to fix the page jazaray@gmail.com says: ok jazaray@gmail.com says: I'll let the guy in charge of the forums know. Matt says: tell him to check the region settings jazaray@gmail.com says: check the region settings, got it. Matt says: that may not be it, but it returns a lot of MYSQL errors on my totally unrestricted connection Matt says: the errors all indicate that I was dropped after a timeout Matt says: timeouts occur usually when the server and client systems can't agree on something Matt says: and on the web, it's usually the timezone you should be in. I, in turn, IM'd that to the person who takes care of that site. This, is what HE had to say:
I don't know what to tell ya bud - im sorry. I have looked at it and don't see any issues. I have used about 10 different computers and phones to access the forum and have had no complains. I have over 200 members between this forum and another forum running on the same server w/ the same software. You are the one and only person advising me of any issues. i am not sure how your friend was finding the instability of my SQL database along w/ any temperamental problems. I have yet to see any errors. I use FireFox and IE and Chrome - all no issues. So.. WTH?! Someone, PLEASE help me! Thanks, Jazaray

That is strange Jaz, although I don't know how to fix the issue you may find a work around using a proxy server or something like that... Something like www.proxify.com may let you on, these kind of things are designed to keep you anonymous online, so it may stop regional settings from kicking you off.

I have around 440 albums worth of music in iTunes taking up 22GB. You might as well play it safe and get at least 40GB worth of space.

One of the CD-ROM drives on my wife's computer keeps opening and then shutting. I tried to update the driver, but it says its current. That was my main guess...so any thoughts?__________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air! Buy my stuff!

Im pretty dumb when it comes to working on PC's.. with that being said, You know how a computer caught in a video camera will show the lines flowing uopward through the moniter. My moniter seems to be doing this on its own without the camera. It tends to get better as the PC runs a bit but is still noticable. I recently had the power supply and motherboard replaced. Is this my moniter going out or possibly a video card issue?

Could be either, I would test the monitor on another computer, if I had to guess the monitor is probably the issue.
Edit: also, if your video card is PCI, you may be able to pull it out if your motherboard has on board video connections and test it that way.

To all you computer hardware nerds:Would this laptop be worth picking up if I want something simple my wife can use to surf, yet still be able to handle all my games like MTGO 3, Diablo 2 and Starcraft? http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0304256 Thanks in advance! --Evil __________________ I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds. The processor seems a little slow compare to top of the line laptops out now, but it's good for the price. It should be fine for the games you mentioned, until MTGO 4 comes out with a minimum requirement of 2 teraflops processor speed. __________________ Man, if I was a superhero, I would rescue girls who would show me their boobs! All righty. Troubles with MS Office.I am running Vista/Office Home Student 2007. Symptoms: - Cannot open Office files directly (not from menus, but from the file itself): I'm told that the file path is wrong.
- Can open Word/Excel/etc., but it takes about 15 minutes to load, and I just found that I can open files from within the program itself--so long as I wait about 20 minutes.
- My files can be opened from other computers without trouble.
I've tried "repairing", and then wiping/reinstalling, but have had no luck. I hunted around the MSOffice website (and Google) for a time, but without a concise way of describing the problems, I haven't had any luck. I realize that "fixing" the problem remotely (i.e. on a forum) is probably not going to happen, but if anyone could point me in the direction I should be proceeding in, that help would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I guess my fancy new land line will have to bother the nice people at the Microsoft call centre overseas. __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. Hmmm...do other programs run relatively quick or are they slow? Could be a resource issue if Office loads but takes forever. Everything else is speedy as can be. I've currently got 1.526 gigs of RAM. EDIT: I should add that this is a recent development. My hard-drive recently had a physical failure, so it was replaced. Everything got re-installed, and Office worked perfectly until a few days ago. Since my router died shortly before then, I've made no significant new installations/updates/etc. __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. Thanks. One of the "related topics" links led to someone who was having trouble due to Norton Internet Security. After a little bit of reading, it seems that after a recent Norton update, some users have reported problems with Norton itself, as well as with trouble opening files and things due to super-long load times (because of virus-scanning) for Office-type files. Not long before my router died, I started noticing that after startup I get a recurring "Symantec Service Framework stopped working and was closed" message, which I've been keeping open to avoid getting it again and again. I just figured Norton would fix it eventually/I would un-install it anyway (my boot discs reinstalled it). I haven't a clue if that's what's screwing with things, but there are enough coincidences to motivate me not to put off uninstalling Norton any more. So I'll do that and then report back. Thanks for your help!

Huh, figures. I'm surprised that Norton hasn't started detecting itself as a virus, as many problems as it can cause. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. I'm waiting for Mcafee and Norton to start detecting each other now, as they both stink almost equally, would be legitimate detections I think That would be funny!

Yeah Norton's great. It protects you from malware by making your computer run so crappy you lose all desire to use it.

is there a way to see who's emailing me based on their IP #? I got a pretty vicious email through my website and I'd love to know who it is and throw it back in their face, and I do have an IP address. __________________ -MOTL's 2007 MVP -2008 Bronze Medal MVP -2nd most likely to be shot down after a murderous rampage 2008 -most likely to get banned 2008 www.thegouldstandard.net

code:
to get the IP:<% Dim sIPAddress sIPAddress = Request.ServerVariables("remote_addr")) %> enter it into a hidden field in your form: <input type="hidden" id="IPAddress" value="<% sIPAddress %>" /> grab it on the back end: Request.Form("IPAddress")
[edit] didn't read that you already had the IP. you can use http://cqcounter.com/whois/ to look it up but it will probably only spit back the host. Although if repeated emails come through from this host you can contact them as it might be a violation of their terms of service.

You can at least go here: http://cqcounter.com/whois/ and lookup the company or person that owns the IP address the message was sent from. From that you could e-mail and ask if they can tell you who sent the message. It's possible that you'll get a useful response, but your odds aren't great if it's a large company. If you haven't figured it out yet you'd have to get a court order to make the company provide the information, and you'd have to act quickly as many places will get rid of that information after a couple weeks, though there are some regulations for certain types of companies such that they might have to keep their records for a couple years.
