Linking to a video of a one hit wonder from the 80s is hardly what I'd call "A lack of respect" to the average person. quote: Originally posted by nderdog: A sociopath is someone who doesn't care about the needs or feelings of others. Is rick-rolling not specifically done to annoy someone?
A sociopath is a pretty loose definition. If you need to not watch a video of Rick Astley, or your feelings are severely hurt by Rick Astley, then perhaps you could call me one. I was more referring to someone who doesn't function well socially. quote: Originally posted by nderdog: Honestly, not even a little bit. Then again, I don't tend to hang out with people who behave that way, either. I'm assuming it's the age difference, since I don't know of anyone that I know in the real world who would even do something like that.
I'll acknowledge that different ages and locations and even social circles in general have different societal expectations. But, get off your high horse. You can target me as someone who isn't in "the real world" since I'm only in my young 20s (although I'd somewhat argue that point, I'll concede it for now), but you can't look at someone like Pyro who's doing graduate work and say he hasn't seen "the real world". Judging, if nothing else, by how you're stating yourself in this debate, I'd hardly peg you for someone who can represent the voice of "the real world" whatsoever. quote: Originally posted by pyr0ma5ta: See, this is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Basically, you're making the moronic assumption that either I should never view any link that anyone else posts or clearly I desperately want to be rick-rolled.
Similarly, you're making the moronic assumption that you're owed some glorious bounty of respect wherein we don't link to anything that you don't like, or clearly we disrespect cemented societal norms and don't know how the real world works. In any case, this is my last say, because I hadn't intended this much of a derail when I posted my original criticism. Anything else anyone wants to say to me on the matter, PM me; I'm going to do my best to avoid posting here for the sake of less headache for everyone. __________________ MOTL's answer to Billy Crystal. Linking to something is one thing. Tricking someone into viewing something that you know that they don't want to see is quite another. Intentionally ticking someone off isn't exactly socially positive. By "the real world" I was referring to people that I know as people in real life, not online. Obviously everyone exists in the real world, but that wasn't my point. People aren't owed "some glorious bounty of respect" but I do believe that everyone is entitled to the respect to not be screwed with and tricked by people who seem to think that ****ing other people off is entertainment or fun for all involved. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Kay, I know I said I'd shut up, but I'll take a sec for this one; my apologies for that. I read you entirely wrong on that part. I (obviously) thought it was a loaded statement meaning that myself and pyr0 hadn't been out into the real word, not just an extended way of saying "IRL". Again, my bad. __________________ MOTL's answer to Billy Crystal. He's old enough to know what's right, but young enough not to choose it. No problem. I didn't think about it being taken that way until you mentioned it. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Trade them to me, please! Report rules violations. Remember the Auctions Board!

Theres a large discussion on the Rick Rolling trend here, with almost 50,000 responses (you'll have to scroll down). Personally I don't think its mean spirited or even disrespectful, it's just a light hearted joke.

Note: No Rickrolls in this post, seriously. Just a couple things worth chiming in. quote: Originally said by Rick Astley, regarding Rickrolling: Listen, I just think it’s bizarre and funny. My main consideration is that my daughter doesn’t get embarrassed about it.

http://www.ibuypower.com My dad got a machine there for a hair under 1.5k over 3 years ago, and while it's getting a bit creaky it's still able to run Crysis on decent settings, and games like Oblivion on max. I'd highly recommend it. It may also be helpful to look on a site such as 1up.com for articles on computer building. We used to get the magazine (now online only, sadly enough), and it had really good features on computer construction about once a year. The relevant information doesn't change too drastically, though.

IBP's machines are mostly decent, but I can use higher-end (mostly 1 step down from the true top of the line, as opposed to mid-range from IBP) parts and save 20% on pricing by building from scratch. It's been a decade since I last did this, but I figure the principle should be similar. Probably won't actually get around to ordering pieces until I get my housing situation worked out, since it doesn't really make sense to order and set up a new computer right before having to move.Speaking of which, I will probably be crashing on someone's couch for the month of July and much of August. __________________ Originally posted by nderdog: pyr0's just screwed up.

Just go to newegg and get your parts there. I'm sure you can put together a mid to high end system for $1k. And if you've built your own system before it shouldn't be too much trouble.

That's exactly what I have planned. I'm planning to spend about $1350, all told, for a monster system. I'm just a little worried that things have changed so much in the last decade that I won't know the little details. Edit: I hope this isn't against MOTL rules to post, but not satisfied with legalized medical marijuana and gay marriage, California is set to legalize marijuana for all consenting adults. I'm so proud of my home state. __________________ Originally posted by nderdog: pyr0's just screwed up.
