hello all and welcome to a new edition of the deranged hermit's shack in this edition we have a new writer and ithe edition is crammed full of invasion as well as other stuff so what are you waiting for READ ON!

Gold

With the arrival of Invasion we can see that Wizards is trying to bring back
Multicolor play, as evident by the return of Gold cards. To those unfamiliar
with Gold cards, here's a run down. Gold cards are simply a card that
requires two different types of colored mana. These cards are usually harder
to cast and therefore come with cheaper casting costs or combined abilities.
Recoil is a perfect example of a Multicolor card. it cost 1 generic, 1 Blue,
and 1 Black mana. It allows you to Return Target Permanent to it's Owner's
hand. Then that Player discards a card from his or her Hand. Now such a card
would never be printed unless it was multicolor, because the card represents
Blue's Returning Permanents to Owner's Hand, and Black's forced Discard. Both
combined to form a new card.
Other indications of incouraged Multicolor play is seen with the arrival of
"Tap Lands" they are lands that come into play tapped, but can be produce 1
of 2 different kinds of mana. These Tap lands only produce "friendly" colors.
Which means there is a Tap land that  produces Green and Red, but there are
none that produce Green and Blue since Green and Blue are in conflict, or
opposing colors. These "Tap Lands" along with their 6th edition predecessor
"pain Lands" you can form a strong mana base for "friendly colors", such as a
Black/Blue deck.
It is also apparent that Wizards is taking steps to "negate" cards that
hinder Multicolor's viability such as Rishadan Port which can sometime stop
or delay a multicolor deck. With that in mind Wizards printed two cards in
Invasion, Teferi's Response and Tsabo's Web. Tsabo's Web will make sure
anybody's Rishadan Port, Dust Bowl, Rath's Edge, ect.. doesn't untap during
their stage. Teferi's Response and Blue card can destroy a Rishadan Port,
Dustbowl and anything else that target's a land you control.
If Invasion is any indication of what is to come for T2 multicolor, then I
seems 2 or 3 color decks might become commonplace in T2 for a long time.

"Trinity Vs. Replenish"
FINAL MATCH
By Avatar of Magic

Here we go again with Trinity vs. Replenish.  This week I won't make any
more mistakes and hopefully you will like it.  Please don't blame me about
the strategies of these decks because I don't play them very often so please
don't reply about strategy.

"Trinity Green"
        16 Forest
        4 Gaea's Cradle
        4 Rishadan Port
        2 Fallow Earth
        4 Plow Under
        4 Tangle Wire
        4 Skyshroud Poacher
        4 Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
        4 Deranged Hermit
        4 Llanowar Elves
        3 Masticore
        2 Blastoderm
        2 Priest of Titania
        4 Birds of Paradise

"Replenish"
        4 Opalescence
        4 Replenish
        2 Seal of Removal
        2 Seal of Cleansing
        2 Trade Routes
        2 Counterspell
        4 Frantic Search
        4 Enlightened Tutor
        2 Lilting Refrain
        4 Parallax Wave
        4 Attunement
        4 Parallax Tide
        1 Marble Diamond
        1 Sky Diamond
        10 Island
        10 Plains

Turn 1: Replenish wins the toss.  He draws 2 plains, 1 island, 1
Enlightened Tutor, 1 Attunement, 1 Parallax Wave, and 1 Counterspell.  He
sends out a plains and taps it for the enlightened tutor.  He searches for
opalescence.

    Turn 2: Trinity draws 2 forests, 2 masticores, a Rofellos, a Llanowar
elves, a tangle wire, and a skyshroud poacher.  He sends out a forest and
taps it for llanowar elves.  He ends the turn.

Turn 3: Replenish draws an opalescence, sends out an island and ends the
turn.

Turn 4: Trinity draws a llanowar elves, sends out a forest, taps 2
forests and a llanowar elves to send out a rofellos and a llanowar elves.  He
ends the turn.

Turn 5: Replenish draws a replenish, sends out a plains, and taps all
three lands which he uses for attunement.  He draws 2 islands and an
enlightened tutor.  He discards a parallax wave, attunement, opalescence, and
an enlightened tutor.  He Ends the turn.

Turn 6: Trinity draws a plow under, he taps a rofellos, a llanowar elves,
and 2 forests for a plow under.  He attacks for one damage with his llanowar
elves.  He ends the turn.

Turn 7: Replenish draws a plains, sends out an island and ends the turn.

Turn 8: Trinity draws a Gaea's Cradle, sends it out, and taps it plus 2
forests, a rofellos, and a llanowar elves for a poacher and a masticore.  He
attacks for 1 with the elves and ends the turn.

Turn 9: Replenish draws an island, sends it out and ends the turn.

Turn 10: Trinity discards a masticore for masticore's upkeep, draws a
forest, sends it out, and taps 3 forests to search for a Deranged Hermit with
the poacher.  He attacks with 2 llanowar elves, a rofellos, and the masticore
for a total of 8 damage which brings replenish to 10 health.  He ends the
turn.

Turn 11: Replenish draws a lilting refrain, sends out a plains and taps 4
lands for a replenish.  Opalescence, attunement, and parallax wave come into
play.  He ends the turn.

Turn 12: Trinity draws a forest and discards it for masticores upkeep.
Trinity attacks with everything and no matter how Replenish blocks, Trinity
Wins!

So you see for the 3rd time, trinity beats replenish.  Don't even bother
asking me to rematch them again.

Invasionower cards,colors,future decks,strategies and themes

let me just start off by saying that invasion is the best set i think that wizards of the coast has released since the tempest days probably. The revival of the infamous gold cards has also revived the magic scene and should step up the tourney scene,to decrease uno colored decks while making it easier to come up with and built multicolored combo decks as well as control decks

I just bought a box of invasion and by the looks of it, it looks as if red and black have gotten the best part of invasion.Surely for people who play green and white got the worst part of the deal while they have their good cards molimo, kavu titan, thicket elemental, verdeloth, harsh judgement and rout as well as some good and very playable commons and uncommons but white and green by itself in a invasion only tourney isint that great compared to black/red.Still these colors with their few good cards dont stand up to the monster colors of the set.

here's and color power list of invasion colors(greatest to least)

1. Multicolored or Gold cards
2. Red cards
3. Black cards
4. Blue cards
5. Green cards
6. White cards
7. Artifact cards

here's a closer look at the list above and why i think things line up this way!

1. Gold:really great to have these back, and very few of these cards suck or are unplayable, almost every one has a use.Overall the best in the set with outstanding cards like aether rift, hero's reunion, meteor storm and armadillo cloak

2. Red: great kickers with skizzik and urza's rage a better searing wind but a little more expensive with the kicker but even with out the kicker a really great card, ghitu fire adds spice and some of the kavu's are cool adding goodness along with green or black.hard decision since red and black are basically the same strenght

3. Black: great dammage, discard and pretty cool cards like do or die, addle, yawgmoth's adgend, whats not to like about this color...it's just great with some crap ...but not much

4. Blue: alot of interesting as well as great counterspells my favorite would be teferi's response, but this good color does'nt quite make third because of outplayed, outprinted, annoying as well as boring crap like phantasmal terrain and shimmering wings

5. Green: okay i've seen better cards but cards like verdeloth, kavu titan, molim, and thicket elemental are cool but there are to many legends and if it were'nt for that legend rule green would be sooooo much better, and plus where are the pumper cards, aggressive urge can fill the gap that rancor left when it went bye bye so what happened no good pumpers thats what.

6. White: this color has seen much much better days, the only card that fits next to wrath of god would be void or rout which is really good but void is better and thats the problem it's not white, and what happened to the cool rebel theme that was going for three sets i't is annoying to see such a cool set not include such a cool rebel type

7. Artifact: last and yes least of the set even with good and playable cards like planar portal, tek, and those cool cameo's they dont make up for snoozers like urza's filter, phyrexian lens, and lotus guardian.

There are also alot of great cards in invasion,so i'll list what i think are the top best 20 cards of the set,you my be astonished as to what prevails and what does'nt

here we go:

20)mana maze
19)atalya, samite master
18)teferi's response
17)darigaaz,the ignitor
16)teferi's moat
15)molimo maro sorcerer
14)fact or fiction
13)death or glory
12)thicket elemental
11)ghitu fire
10)rout
9)armadillo cloak
8)urza's rage
7)planar portal
6)hero's reunion
5) yawgmoth's adgenda
4)aether rift
3)VOID
2)BLAZING SPECTER
1)PYRE ZOMBIE

okay now that, thats out of the way here is my opinion of what decks will prevail now in type 2

rising waters
discard/burn
saproling decks
black death decks(with adgenda)
lans destruction(because of the possible 5 colored decks)
coalition victory decks
decking decks(it is now very possible to deck your opponent)
fast green

to wrap this article up here's a deck list of the deck i made up and will be playing soon!

i call it
" Phyrexia's Battle Plans"

2 seismic mage
4 shock
2 unmask
2 thrashing wampus
2 pyre zombie
2 blazing specetr
3 addle
2 void
2 blaze
2 stupor
2 urza's rage
2 squee goblin nabob
2 greel mind raker
2 coercion
4 dark ritual
3 agonizing demise
2 skizzik
12 swamp
8 mountain

-Crimson Hellkite0021

howwhy did you even bother playing replenish-trinity again? they rotated already. and way i would rather have forests than rushwood grove in the new trinity, plus i think it would be a lot better if you added another color. and fact or fiction is not 14th in invasion-its top 3.

I know that you said not to reply to your strategies, but you posted them, and I'm free to reply, so here goes.

Why in the world didn't Replenish send out that Replenish on turn 7? It just boggles my mind to think that he waited 4 turns before doing it. Did you really just want Trinity to win, or what? Also, the turn you cast Attunement, you don't return it to your hand. You wait until after your draw phase on the next turn to return it to your hand, so that you have a better chance of discarding a better enchantment, assuming that you happened to get one from your draw phase. Also, I really wouldn't have discarded the Attunement, for it's not a good idea - the Attunement is what lets your sift through your deck quickly... but you wanted Trinity to win, so it won. The decks have rotated out, anyways, so it really doesn't matter.

Anyways, on to your article.
I don't agree with Green being one of the last best colors - I think it has some pretty solid cards.
Jade Leech
Kavu Titan
Scouting Trek (great combo card)
Tangle
HypeTree
Blurred Mongoose (SB)
Kavu Chameleon (Changing colors is GREAT!)

And you seem to be pretty biased towards R/B. I'm sorry to say, but I don't think Pyre Zombie is the best card in the set. I think Fact or Fiction, Absorb and Undermine, as well as many others, are all above it. Though, I do think that "Baby Bogardan" is still a great card.

In your "prevailing" decks section, I have a few questions.
Do you think that the original, counter everything, Rising Waters is going to do well? Or do you mean Agro Waters?
Coalition Victory decks? Please, don't say that. It's really just a casual deck card.
Decking Decks? Maybe U/W control, but why not just use a different finisher such as Jeweled Spirit? It's much quicker, and no, the environment isn't THAT slow.

I think you left out a few very influential decks -

Rebel (Hey, it's not gone. It won in many areas)
Fires (Very fast)
NetherGo (One of the best control decks)
U/W Control (Just very solid with all the creature control, solid counters, and a great addition with Absorb).

And in your new "Phyrexian Battle Plans" deck, what is the point of having Squees in there?
And sorry, but I don't think Trinity Green is going to have much of a chance at all in the new Type 2. God, I can just see that deck going up against U/W control... I mean, what's in for Elvish Lyrist? Nothing... Teferi's Moat, and you're gone.

have to agree with underworld dreams, your choices on plays with the matchup of replenish and trinity are biased with trinity winning.
maby its me but i thought that even tho parallax wave was a creature with opalescence on the board it could still use its ability to take masticore out of the picture.

MESSAGE TO WHOEVER WROTE THE DECK MATCHUP ARTICLE:

how about instead of making up hypothetical games in which trinity always seems to win, we just look at some dojo tournament reports. I'm sure they will be more accurate...

sorry.. but I will be making a reply to this once again.. poor play strategy of replenish vs trinity..
first and foremost.. lets get the decklist right.. this is Don Lim's decklist
4 attunements
4 enlightened tutors
4 replenish
4 opalesence
4 parallax wave
4 parallax tide
4 seal of cleasing
1 wrath of god
1 mystical tutor
1 sky diamond
1 marble diamond
1 energy field
3 frantic search
4 rishadan ports
4 adakar wastes
8 plains
8 islands

its much better and more consistent

first and foremost.. even if I did have the replenish deck you had.. knowing I'm playing against trin.. my first enlightened tutor is for a seal of cleansing

secondly.. explain why trinity on turn 2 (after playing an elves and forest on turn 1.. did NOT play wire?)

btw... bad players use attunement the turn they cast it when its turn 3.. you are supposed to wait to turn 4 and use it after you draw.. reason I will state again: you have more options to choose from to discard.. (amatuers )

explain to me why replenish would EVER discard an attunement after just using it ONCE.. and discarding an enlightened tutor???
are you insane? do you know HOW to play replenish? those are the last cards a replenish player generally discards!!

and once again.. I say that if I'm playing replenish.. and you trinity.. I will be winning the matchup.. even divine intervention couldnt prevent me from beating you

On this Trinity vs. Replenish thing-- Have you ever heard of an objective point of view? Trinity was build to defeat replenish, but not like THAT.. For one thing, you give the Trinity player essentially a god hand, and make newbie-plays for both sides over and over.. I mean its pretty obvious you can't play Trinity very well, much less Replenish.. My suggestion for you is to take da-odd-templar's advice and do research instead of a completely biased "match" lacking even the semblance of the tournament-level skill that got those decks where they are in the first place..
