hey all, ive just decided to have a small discussion on mail frauders, or what we call them, rippers. I havent actually been on here that long, since late august, but I too have been ripped already, and like maybe most of you it was my first trade, chalk it up to inexperience. I quickly got accustomed to the goings and comings of motl and online trading and since have made several good "non trades" with people that i later on see a bad trader alert about. If you take the time to go through some of these steps, it is very likely you wont get ripped, as most rippers have at least "one" of these characteristics1. "hi, im know im new to motl and have no refs, but U have to send first" k this does not totally mean this guy is a ripper, he could just be paranoid and such, but DO NOT do the trade either way unless you also have a low ref count, but then, why couldnt you just simul then hmmm??
2. If you see posts from people asking why this person isnt responding to emails and posts and such, be wary, chances are something is up, especially if more then one post of that nature exists. 3. "Hi, i have a black lotus, ancestral and mox emerald, i want ports, cradles and cash, but i DONT SEND FIRST with my p9" : if this person has more then 10 refs i really wouldnt worry too much about that comment then, as i can sympathize with the person on not wanting to get burnt on p9. However, if his ref count is lower, best you check the refs he does have, and or debate whether losing alot of type 2 cards are worth the gamble of him being for real. I have had several supposed "ancestral owners" come to me, as i WANT A ANCESTRAL please", telling me they wanted this and that, but ofcourse it never went through, for reasons im sure you could figure it out. 4. As a rule i make sure i stay in touch with everyone i trade with until both parties have there cards. Be wary of this if your other partie suddenly becomes "unaviable through email". It might be you have got a shady trader or a full blown ripper on your hands. 5. On way to be totally worry free. 1. 20+ ref count, it would hard to get that many being a ripper, and a stupid idea to start too. 2. GAB member, you cant get on usually as they go through your refs and verify them, i have to encounter anyone on gab that is not honest. 3. Instinct. Sometimes you just have a bad feeling. Unless you NEED the cards, always go with your instinct, 90% you are going to be right and you could find yourself kicking yourself in your, well , u know, if you dont and you get ripped. Thats all folks, feel free to post comments or experinces that relate with all the topics discussed above and thanks you very much for taking the time to listen good trading guys, jay irsih31 (pygmy allosaurs rocks!!!)

here's one i noticed that is a big one:if he says "NO RULES!!" in his post, then I got one rule for ya: Don't trade with him. __________________ Stinky cheese is still cheese. Or, if you are really concerned ask the guy to send third party. If they say no then drop it immedeatly. However if you do bring up this solution you should be ready to cover the costs of it, which usually are small. If they don't agree to this they are obviously a ripper. But like you said a lot of what you do has to be based on instinct. __________________ Beer, helping white guys dance since 1872.

with gab. if you still aren't sure wether to send or not, we have a probation list but most of it's just because they were rude and didn't apologize or made fake refs. heres another hintif they are under 18 you can write a letter to their parents(they probably have no idea whats hapening) and have them deal with them. thats we are told to do at G.A.B. if they over 18 though and you lost some really valuable cards. you can charge them with mail fraud. all you need is proof that they recieved you cards. __________________ Lt. You forgot a big rule.Always check soembody's refs no matter how many they say?I was about to do a trade with Morpher1/51.In an email,he said he had 51 refs and wanted me to send first.I checked how many he had on MOTL,only one.I emailed him back.Never heard from him again. The best was with magic50@hotmail.com.It was my unl. berserk for his foil cradle. He had I htink no refs and I had aorudn 30,but his"mom" wouldn't let him send first.SO I told him about third party,he acted liek an idiot and didn't knwo wut it meant. So I didn't trade, now I asee him on the confirmed bad traders list.nother guy email rhystic_dragonsomething.It was seriously a bunch of mediocre cards for a foil port, foil core, adn other cards.I knew it was too good to be true.I said he had to send first or third party. He TOO didnt knwo what third party was.You knwo what he said"I know it sounds safe but I said on my post to simulsend".cough..cough..BS..I emailed him again a week later and he said he already traded his foil port for a better offer. So guys: 1.Always check refs out. 2.If it soudns too good to be true,it probably is.

well, i usually ask for scans if it is a large trade. i know some people dont have scanners, but alot of people do. ive busted rippers so bad just by asking for scans. if they dodge the question, i usually take it as them being a ripper, and i ask them to send first.. the least they could do is answer the question..
