My thoughts: There's an amazing power-creep of the bad cards. I feel like the good cards aren't getting much better, but the bad cards are catching up to the good ones.

1) What do you guys think of Harm's Way?

2) Do you think the new Savannah Lions (UC) is even good in this format?

3) What do you think of the Exalted Angel variant, Baneslayer Angel?

4) Why do you think Remove Soul got its name changed?

5) Does anybody else feel like they're really redefining the color pie with this set? Each color feels very... stereotypical to me, and I think I like it.

Harm's Way is a cheaper, more limited Kor's Chant to me. Ridiculous in limited, and probably not playable in constructed at all. White already has removal in Path to Exile, Oblivion Ring, Unmake, Condemn, and Crib Swap. This is white's equivalent of Shock. It's not awful, but it's not nearly good enough to make the cut.

Elite Vanguard is a Human Soldier. While it may work in a white weenie after Lorwyn block rotates, right now, Kithkin gives you a 2/2 for W and a 1/1 for W that can become a 2/2. This won't get played for that reason alone. Kithkin is the white weenie deck of choice, the others are inferior, so if you play this guy, you're naturally going to be playing a worse deck.

I wouldn't call Baneslayer Angel an Exalted Angel variant; the EA could be played turn 3, turned face up on turn 4, and attack for 4 that turn. This comes into play turn 5, attacks on turn 6; if it survives. The era of big, bad creatures seems to be over for now, especially those that die to Terror, Path to Exile, Maelstrom Pulse, etc. Broodmate is barely playable these days, and only gets the nod because it requires two removal spells to off him. Things may change when Lorwyn rotates out, but for now, it's too slow and too vulnerable. It generates no card advantage and is answered by a single removal spell.

As for Essence Scatter/Remove Soul, I have no idea. Perhaps it's flavor, perhaps its to work with new templating, but it really doesn't matter to me.

I have no clue and I'm not going to speculate right now. The next block could be filled with utility one-drops making it useless. It could be filled with big and slow spells, making faster beatdown strategies viable, or it may be that mid-range rules the format then. I can't say.

I'm hoping they make more zombies, but they'll probably make 3-4 in M10 and they will most likely be bad 3-5 drops. Carnophage would be nice, but that's not going to happen.

Mechanics-wise, see Vampiric Link from Planar Chaos. They decided that lifelink is an ability that they feel comfortable bleeding over from white into black.

They have have a balance of vanilla with stuff like darksteel collosus, fabricate, time warp etc.

Draft. Horned Turtle, Snapping Drake, and Wind Drake are all nice draft cards. *Yes Horned Turtle... try it . Cheap vanilla and french Vanilla dudes are good for draft. There's stuff like this in every set, usually for this very reason.

I grabbed a playset of commons and uncommons off of ebay about a week ago, and sure am glad I did. Some really nice playables that I can use for multiple decks already. Plus I just got a set of Savannah Lions in the mix. The set looks like it's going to be hella sweet. Now they're adding some fun mythics like Colossus and Platinum Angel. Loving it so far.
